Rail sp. or ???
floraphile posted a topic in Help Me Identify a North American Bird25 May 2023 Baldwin co. AL; grassy brackish marsh near public boat ramp. Grass in standing water. I was patiently waiting for one of 2 calling Clapper Rails to show itself when a Least Bittern and this guy suddenly flushed from the grass. I'm not sure what to make of the stripe along the back of the neck.
Both Red-eyed Vireo?

Sparrow Day in the Delta
floraphile posted a topic in Help Me Identify a North American Bird23 Feb 2021 Baldwin co. AL; delta/bay/river & mixed piney/cypress/hardwoods; public access walking paths, interpretive center & other habited buildings 1. ?Red-tailed Hawk 2. ?Swamp Sparrow--deep in shade, hard for me to appreciate color 3. ?Savannah Sparrow--apologies for the blurred image 4. ?Song Sparrow 5. ?Lincoln's Sparrow 6. I could ID the Killdeer (bird in center of lower image) in the field. Can the smaller shorebirds be identified any further than "peep sp."?
floraphile posted a topic in Help Me Identify a North American Bird10 Dec 2020 Baldwin co. AL; public park; Estuarine environment/brackish + wet & piney woods 1. Great-Tailed vs. Boat-Tailed vs. Common Grackle. I know it shouldn't be a Great-Tailed, but that flat head & yellow eyes & he looked all black, and he can't seem to find a place to put that tail. 2. Killdeer--I never saw them from the front, but I think there are 2 bands & that bill looks too long for SEPL 3. ?Lincoln's Sparrow (vs. Song Sparrow)--I see a faint eye ring. I'm not sure how to interpret whether he has a buffy wash to the breast or not. 4. ?Sedge Wren vs (Winter Wren--but wrong habitat?)--he would not show me his face, but I thought too much barring for Carolina Wren. He was in the grass & ground-level vines at water's edge, no woods in this area, but there was quite a bit of thick, dead grass & vines in the area.
