Migratory bird in Columbia, NJ
labradorduck posted a topic in Help Me Identify a North American Bird
My friend and I are stumped- we can't figure out what bird this is! I was hiking near Buttermilk Falls in Columbia, NJ and I saw what looked like a migratory bird. The size of a catbird with a more full body and a slightly pointed head like a cardinal. Dark black body and white stomach and red spots under each wing. It was flying and flew into a small tree before flying away. I was unable to get a picture. It kind of sounded like, "Sooooweet!" -
Hey everyone, I saw this red and gray bird perched on a spruce in central New Jersey at around mid-day. I took this photo in a suburban neighborhood, and this bird was the only member of its species I noticed in the vicinity. It later flew off in the Northeasterly direction as far as I could see. Anyone know what species it might be?

This bird only came to my yard a couple times that I know of. Very red, very sleek with a dove like stature. Appeared to be a ground feeder because I never saw it hit the feeders. I do not have a pic, i'm sorry. But if you can give me some ideas based on this info, I can try to look it up again on this site. TIA
