unsure of what this is. the closest I could find on allaboutbirds is Ruddy Turnstone (Non-breeding). But they aren't supposed to be in the southern California Desert areas.

Good morning, I am trying to determine what sandpiper as I had a thought that it was a western and someone had suggested the same thing. But not quite sure it is. It is larger than nearby semipalmated and the bill is thicker and droops more. It was taken in Cumberland County, NJ 5/27/2019. Some guides seem to say that this is a rare springtime sandpiper if a western for my area, Southern New Jersey. Thank you, Nancy

8/31/2018. Southeast Michigan, Pointe Mouillee I think the one on the right is a Least Sandpiper because of the small, pointy beak, but not sure.

I have VERY limited experience with shorebirds. Both pictures in the last few days in Saint Joseph, MI, Southeast corner of Lake Michigan. 1. Low light in the evening. Guessing Sanderling because of lack of hind toe? But the beak doesn't seem right? I don't know...might be normal. 2. Semipalmated Sandpiper because of partially-webbed toes?
