  1. Taken on 11-5-2022 at the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve in Van Nuys, CA. Is this a Yellow-rumped Warbler?
  2. Taken on 11-5-2022 at the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve in Van Nuys, CA. Are these someone's domestic pigeons out for exercise? The flock overtook two Rock Pigeons.
  3. Taken on 11-5-2022 at Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve in Van Nuys, CA.
  4. Taken on 8-21-2022 at Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve in Van Nuys, CA. What's this bird on the right?
  5. Taken on 8-21-2022 at Sepulveda Basin in Van Nuys, CA. The placement of the dark patch on the face has me confused. Both photos are of the same bird.
  6. Taken just after sunset on 12-20-2021 at Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve in Van Nuys, CA. This group of about 20 sparrows was going between the ground and a tree. I think the photos I have all look like the same species, but I'm having some indecision about what that is. The attached photos are of different birds.
  7. Taken on 12-20-2021 at Sepulveda Basin in the Haskell Creek floodplain, Van Nuys, CA. Would this be a Lincoln's Sparrow?
  8. Taken on 12-20-2021 at dusk at Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve in Van Nuys, CA.
  9. Taken 4-11-2021 in the late afternoon at Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve in Van Nuys, CA. My first thought was Ring-billed Gull, but now I'm thinking it might be a California Gull at some stage other than adult.
  10. Taken 4-11-2021 in the late afternoon at Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve in Van Nuys, CA. Is this a regular ol' domestic Graylag Goose? I know there's lots of variability, but I haven't seen any pictures of them with a black tip on the bill and a spot on the throat. And it seems about the same size or a little smaller than the Canada Goose.
  11. Taken 4-11-2021 in the afternoon at Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve in Van Nuys, CA. Is it possible to ID this swallow? Its the same bird in both photos.
  12. Taken 4-11-2021 in the afternoon at Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve in Van Nuys, CA. Would this be a female Common Yellowthroat?
  13. Taken 4-11-2021 in the afternoon at Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve in Van Nuys, CA. Is this guy identifiable?
  14. Taken 4-11-2021 in the afternoon at Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve in Van Nuys, CA. What do you think?
  15. Taken 4-11-2021 in the afternoon at Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve in Van Nuys, CA. I've been struggling with these two birds. I think they are both goldfinches. Maybe both Lawrence's, which I haven't seen before.
  16. Taken 1-30-2021 in the afternoon at Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve, Van Nuys, CA. The eBird charts for this hotspot show that there have not been any observations of Rufous Hummingbird between the 2nd week of Dec. and the 1st week of Feb. (1900-2021). Also the charts indicate a high frequency of observations of Allen's Hummingbird in all 52 weeks of the year. Even so, if the species of this bird cannot be confidently identified by these photos, is it best to ID it as Rufous/Allen's?
  17. Taken 1-30-2021 in the afternoon at Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve in Van Nuys, CA. I'm debating between Yellow Warbler and Orange-crowned Warbler.
  18. Taken 1-30-2021 in late afternoon at Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve in Van Nuys, CA. I believe these are Hooded Mergansers, but haven't photographed them in flight before.
  19. Taken 1-30-2021 at Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve in Van Nuys, CA. These photos were taken at dusk and I had to lighten them up quite a bit. Is it possible to identify the species?
  20. Taken 1-17-2021 in the afternoon on the Los Angeles River in the Sepulveda Basin, Van Nuys, CA. 1) What is the duck at the bottom right? I can't figure out the white stripe. 2) Are these Least Sandpipers? 3) Don't know 4) I think its the same bird as #3
  21. Taken 1-17-2020 late afternoon near Haskell Creek, Sepulveda Basin, Van Nuys, CA. Is this a Red-shouldered Hawk?
  22. Taken 12-25-2020 in the afternoon on the Los Angeles River at Sepulveda Basin in Van Nuys, CA. What is the duck in the foreground?
  23. Taken 12-25-2020 in the afternoon near Haskell Creek in the Sepulveda Basin, Van Nuys, CA. I hardly ever get sparrows at my house -- only an occasional White-crowned. And the places I normally go, if I see any its only two or three. But on Christmas day I found where all the sparrows hang out. I may have seen 50 to 100. Of the attached photos, I believe they are all Savannah, except for the 3rd one a Song, and the last one (no. 11) I have no idea. But some of those that I've identified as Savannah may actually be Song. Comments please.
  24. Taken 12-25-2020 afternoon near Haskell Creek at Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve, Van Nuys, CA. The first one seems kind of like a Yellow-rumped Warbler, but I don't think so. The second one seems like a California Towhee, but I'm not sure. It's quite dark.
  25. Taken 12-25-2020 near Haskell Creek at Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve, Van Nuys, CA. I've got a few raptors to identify. One or more of these photos may be the same bird that was identified as a Cooper's Hawk a couple days ago. However, that photo and each of these were separated by time and distance.
