  1. 28 Jan 2022 Baldwin co AL; Large man-made freshwater pond 1 and 3-5 appear to have slightly drooping/curved, long bills, so I thought Dunlin
  2. Bird seen among American Black Ducks and Hooded Mergansers in salt waters on coast of Westport, CT, November 15, 9:36am. Sherwood Island State Park (beach and wetlands). Doesn't quite look like any of the shorebirds I recognize. Not a great photo - taken from a distance - but I'm looking at the length of the beak. Any ideas?

  5. Hello Forum! Thank you for all of your recent help in identifying my first west coast birds. YOU GUYS ROCK!!! I've got a few more that I can't quite place and would appreciate some help. Thanks! 1. The Merlin Bird App keeps pegging this one as a non-breeding or juvenile Black-Bellied Plover. It was larger than nearby sanderlings, smaller than willetts. Can anyone confirm? The yellow on the side points to Chevron. Can anyone confirm? DSC_2852 by degibox, on Flickr DSC_2853 by degibox, on Flickr DSC_2861 by degibox, on Flickr 4. Lesser Yellow-legs??? DSC_2844 by degibox, on Flickr 5. For this last set I'm hoping I've captured the West Coast seagull trifecta of California Gull, Western Gull, and Heerman's Gull. Western seems certain. Are there any California's in there? The one in the center of of the last pick was IDed as Heerman's by Merlin Bird ID but also marked as Rare. Would love human confirmation. A. 6. Hi all, so, time for the grand finale. There was some time left between quick Anahuac visit (I did only Willows Trail + Shoveler Pond) and the flight back from Houston, so I planned a circular route Houston - Anahuac - Galveston via ferry - IAH airport). And on the way, there was this interesting hotspot called Bolivar Flats Shorebird Sanctuary (got beach parking permit at local store) which proved to be a gem! Like 10000 of birds in one not so big location, totally totally overwhelming, a short beach walk, too bad I only had 1,5 hours. Randomly took 160 photos of the shorebirds... Will now try to select best photos of different birds so I can go through all the photos efficiently... 1) First, is this a Caspian Tern?? Location: Bolivar Flats Shorebird Sanctuary, TX 2) Cutey - can this be anything other than Snowy Plover? Location: Bolivar Flats Shorebird Sanctuary, TX 3) Now that's a useful shot - left - Dunlin, center - Sanderling, right - Black-bellied Plover? + a photo of dunlins and a Black-bellied. Location: Bolivar Flats Shorebird Sanctuary, TX Thanks, Peter
  7. 3-13-19 Carrabelle Beach, Fl 1,2 3 photos I've looked in Sibley and can't decide if this is a Willet or not. 4. Ringbill Gull
  8. I need help in IDing the birds in the attached pics. They were photographed at approximately 12 pm on Sept. 14, 2018, at Huguenot Memorial City Park in Duval County, near Jacksonville, FL. Shorebirds are a new challenge for me, so any help and instruction will be most appreciated. Pic 1: 4 peeps next to Black-Bellied Plover Pic 2: 2 peeps in water with Skimmers, Caspian Terns, and Sanderlings in foreground. Pic 3: peep next to Sanderlings for convenient size comparison.
  9. These were taken recently at Pointe Mouilee on Lake Erie. I've got some lifers regardless, but please correct any of these IDs: 1. Stilt Sandpiper? 2. A young Rail...which? 3. Lesser Yellowlegs
  10. I guess shorebirds are migrating back South through Michigan now, and I need help. These were taken recently at Pointe Mouilee on Lake Erie. I've got some lifers regardless, but please correct any of these IDs: 1. Stilt Sandpiper? 2. Short-billed Dowitchers, because of how much white in the tail in flight photo? 3. Short-billed Dowitcher juvenile? with peep - guessing Semipalmated Sandpiper? 4. Same peep as above, guessing Semipalmated Sandpiper?
