Spotted this interestingly-colored bird last weekend (early afternoon) hanging out among the talus at an altitude of 10,000' in western Montana. It was a little larger than robin-sized, and looked black from a distance. As it hopped around, though, it seemed to flash orangish-red; as seen in the side shot, the wing feathers are actually red underneath the black outer layer. As I only noticed in the photos, it also has a pale band of feathers at eye level. Trying to ID this bird left me, my birding app, and an internet search completely mystified. Any ideas? Thanks!

Found this poor soul on the ground outside my living room window...hit my window hard enough to set off the security alarm, hence the discovery. Hoping someone can help me ID, as it would be a small consolation for the loss of such a beautiful bird. Time/place: about 10:00 AM Mountain today, June 4; western Montana; sunny and 70 Description: Black Head with distinctive yellow “mask”; thick finch-like beak looks green in photo but more wheat-color IRL; chest gradient of black to black/grey to grey/yellow, ending with bright yellow under wings. Head looks very similar to hooded
