Hi, Just joined to identify this bird. Been looking through books and internet and have no idea. Seemed to have similar coloring to a Ruddy Turnstone. But the wing pattern and shape seemed different than the pictures I found. I was on a walk around noon on Sunday April 28, 2019 in Squantum Point Park which is on the waterfront in Quincy, MA. Sorry the picture is very poor. Just had my iphone, and as soon as I stepped closer it flew off into the trees. I think the bird is about the size of a robin, seemed smaller than a blue jay. I took the pic because I'd never seen a bird with this coloring. Any clue what this beautiful bird is?
Hello everyone, Glad to see the forums are working again! I was birding in Prince Edward Island, Canada this week (early August 2018) and would like some confirmations/help with shorebird IDs. Thanks for the help! 1. Ruddy Turnstones? (based on bright legs, reddish back and black markings) https://www.flickr.com/photos/134515731@N02/shares/619L62 2. Lesser Yellowlegs? (legs longer than tail, beak slightly longer than head,...) https://www.flickr.com/photos/134515731@N02/shares/9DMRZ1 3. Least Sandpiper? https://www.flickr.com/photos/134515731@N02/shares/9H9uP1 4. The first two in this photo seem to have darker bellies than the third; two species? https://www.flickr.com/photos/134515731@N02/shares/Lj962k 5. Also two species? The two almost side-by-side seem to have different bill lengths. https://www.flickr.com/photos/134515731@N02/shares/Y3Z178
