Critter time..

Recommended Posts

Ground squirrel (chipmunk) eating Blue Beaver-tail Cactus seeds. This is one of those cactus that you just don't want to mess with as they are covered in glochids. Out here in the desert all the critters will  ignore the Beaver-tails except for these guys, they love those springtime seeds.

Your'e very lucky to find one! They are notoriously difficult to observe. This is probably a Northern Short-tailed Shrew.

I put it on iNat, I’ll see if I can get any responses!  First time I’ve seen one all winter, probably the cold forced him to  the seeds for sustenance.

Probably. They prefer meat when they can get it, and I mean meat, not insects. But they like insects too.
