TexasCobra Posted December 15, 2019 Share Posted December 15, 2019 Lola is on fire! Today Lola is appearing in the AKC National Dog Show in Orlando. This is the largest dog competition in North America. Over 5300 canines are registered. My wife is attending the show. We have had difficulty entering her in competitions that feature enough entrants of Bouvier des Flandres to earn her points in a major competition. The turning point was in Conroe Texas where she took best of breed in a major. For the past week, Lola has appeared at various shows in Florida where she never failed to bring home points and was awarded as "Best of Opposite Sex", "Winner's Bitch", and "Reserve Champion". She is now certified as an AKC Champion Bouvier des Flandres. The breeder is delighted. The owner's are delighted. The professional handler (who always said she had the stuff) is delighted. Never quite sure about the protocol for "dedicated threads" but had to say congratulations, this is a big deal. I only had a brief experience of the show dog world in the 80s and it is tough. We acquired a Bearded Collie from a top Canadian breeder (Classical Highland Princess - worth it just for the name), she would never have done well in shows but a great dog. Then we took over a male (Merlin) who had it all - excellent conformance and was born for the show ring - we got some points but .........understandingly you have to dedicate yourself to the show world and it is a massive commitment. On the other hand, few breeds are as assertive and protective as a bouvier. The bouvier is also exceptionally powerful and most of them will challenge you with their independent thinking. The bouvier requires an owner or trainer or handler who is firm and consistent and patient. From more than thirty years of experience owning and training and breeding bouviers who have accompanied the family in domiciles that include northern Virginia, Texas, and overseas duty in Latin America, I can tell you I have never experienced a home intrusion or a property theft. I am going to start listing my camera set up for those who might care. Maybe others will follow, I'd like to know what others use as well.
