Possible Forest Swallow????

Recommended Posts

We are in northern Minnesota near Itasca State Park (headwaters of Mississipp River) a heavily forested area.  The lake that we are on has hundreds  of small birds that are about the size of a swallow, dark gray with light to white underside.  They all spend most of the day swooping and darting just above the lake.  There are no insects to feed on currently because it has been too cold.  As they dart around they might occasionally dip to the water as if to get a drink.  We have not seen them roosting in bushes or along the shore.  After what appears to be a full day flying above the lake they disappeared about dusk.  All this activity has been going on for several days.

Thanks for you help
