It's probably just me again, but there are a couple of features on this bird that have me uncomfortable with House Finch.

  • The streaking looks too fine
  • The head looks too round
  • The bill looks less heavy than I see on the Housies in my yard.
  • That's a pretty significant notch where the bill meets the head.

But I don't have an alternative ID to offer.

Cassin's Finches have pointier bills and more contrasting facial patterns. There's plenty of variation among House Finches... I also think this is a young one.

Alandula is right- this is a House Finch. Notice the curved culmen. Beyond that, this is just not what young Cassin's Finches look like...
