lonesome55dove
Any thoughts on these hummingbirds? Are they just regular Rufous or could they be Green-backed? Thanks for your help. ? Connor Cochrane
This is a Rufous Hummingbird, not an Allen's. I believe the Green-backed Rufous is a color morph, which means there can be intermediate birds, like this one.

Allen's are not in my area so it is a Rufous ...I just don't recall seeing a male with green on the head and back that's why I asked. Thank you for your help. ? AlexHenry
Yes its a Rufous, this is pretty extensive green for a Rufous, there is a range from no green whatsoever to more than this. Most males I see have no green or only a little flecking, but ones with more extensive green aren't too unusual. Not entirely sure what your question is - yes they are just regular Rufous, and yes they are green backed.

I'm used to seeing the ones with no green so this one caught my eye as different ...your explanation answered my question, thank you. ?
