xpoetmarcr
These were all from Southwest Idaho in a wetlands area taken last week and this week. Thank you in advance. #1 - Is this a sparrow? #2 #3 #4 - This guy was swimming with a couple of adult Mallards close by, but I've never seen a blonde duckling like this before. #5 - Which Swallow? #6 - Again, which Swallow? #7 - Brown-headed Cowbird (?) #8 - Song sparrow (?) Connor Cochrane
Maybe it's a Redhead duckling, they are nest parasites, and have pretty pale duckling. It could also be a leucisitic bird.
Kevin
Would someone mind explaining why 5 is not a Bank Swallow? Thanks! Edited May 28, 2020 by Kevin
Jefferson Shank
Would someone mind explaining why 5 is not a Bank Swallow? Thanks! @Kevin A Bank Swallow has a much more pronounced collar with a more white neck. For example; https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/60428861 Northern Rough-winged Swallows have more of a dingy throat and breast. Not near as much of a band as the Bank Swallow.

Birding Boy
Isn't the throat on #6 too dark for NRWS? Seems to fit Cliff Swallow better along with that slightly less notched tail.

I believe your right... The wings didn't seem round enough to me at first, but I think it's a Cliff.

Jefferson Shank
The Phoebe is Black, not Eastern. You can see a bit of a light colored throat. ???
Charlie Spencer
#3 is about a time zone too far west for Eastern Phoebe.
Jefferson Shank
#3 is about a time zone too far west for Eastern Phoebe. eBird shows Eastern Phoebe just as common or more common than Black Phoebe in southwest Idaho.
The Bird Nuts
It's the wrong color for an Eastern Phoebe anyway. The pale strip on its throat appears to be rim lighting.
