confirm Alder Flycatcher ?

Recommended Posts

This is definitely a Traill's (Willow/Alder) Flycatcher with that thin eyering and medium primary projection. Alders are far more common on Nova Scotia than Willows, but I don't think you should report it as an Alder unless you've heard it as the two species can be very similar in appearance.

Thank you akandula. I have reported it on ebird but I can certainly edit my sighting. The bird was stationary and making a steady flat "pit" call every 10 seconds or so. I have other images. Do you think I should change my report to read Traill's (Willow/Alder)? I respect your opinion. Thanks

Based on the leaves in the background in the second photo, habitat looks much better for Alder Flycatcher than Willow Flycatcher (i.e., it is in an Alder, not a Willow). You should call it Alder.
