Common or Forester's Tern ???

Recommended Posts

This looks like a Common to me. There's a fair bit of dark on the trailing edge of the primaries, and the undersides do look gray.

The Common would be a lifer after many Forster's, especially at Bolsa Chica, Huntington Beach, CA. I have added 3 more Terns, hoping that they might include a Common.

Taking another look at that first one, I think I was wrong -- the tail pattern fits Forster's. I think they're all Forsters.

Thanks guys,

The common and caspian are seen along Puget Sound north of Seattle in August and September. Went there 2 weeks ago and saw 4 caspians which are easy to id from common. I'll go back to Edmonds waterfront in mid-September.

Thanks, Al in Tacoma
