Great Crested Flycatcher is a large flycatcher with a crest, not a flycatcher with a large crest. "Great-crested" would be a compound modifier that work together to modify "flycatcher," whereas "Great Crested" are independent modifiers that modify "flycatcher" separately from each other. The best contrary example is "Brown-crested Flycatcher" as it is a flycatcher with a brown crest.

On the ID, Great Crested Flycatchers have a pale base to the mandible, which all kingbirds lack. Additionally, Great Crested Flycatcher does not have a black tail with white outer webs to the outermost tail feathers.
