Tim Emmerzaal
I have been hearing this sound for a few times now in a relatively small forest in Rochester, MN, but unable to see and identify the bird. There are different birds singing in the clip, but I am interested in the constant somewhat monotonous sound in the recording. 20200705-122324.wav
Benjamin
It sounds to me like a Yellow-billed Cuckoo.

Benjamin
@Kevin I'm not super familiar with Black-billed but it doesn't make monosyllabic knocking sounds like this, no? Edited July 8, 2020 by Benjamin

You are right, they do not. I am not familiar with them either, I knew that they mad some kind of similar sounds. That is why I said Black-billed/Yellow-billed Cuckoo. Try the second audio, it is similar to Yellow-billed Cuckoo call .https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Black-billed_Cuckoo/sounds I agree with Yellow-billed Cuckoo, now. I did not really thing it was a Black-billed Cuckoo, but I did not want to jump the gun and discover I was wrong. By the time I got to this thread I really needed to go out and mow, so I did not take the time to find out which one it was. Who wants to go out in in the heat and mow when you can stay in the air conditioning and study birds? Edited July 8, 2020 by Kevin
