Photo taken 04Sep2009 at Gilbert Water Ranch, Gilbert, Az. I rejected Yellow Warbler due to bill, small eye, and undertail pattern. And I fail to bring those features together to ID this bird.

I’m having a hard time seeing this as a goldfinch. The bill appears way too hefty. Also, the tail is rather short and broad. Maybe a House Sparrow - the picture looks like it’s not portraying the true colors of the bird, but I could be wrong.

Here is the same photo without any lighting changes. I include the branches above suggesting that the black-cap is a shadow. What is LEGO?

It is the acronym, or species code, for LEsser GOldfinch

In my opinion, they are easier to understand if the bird's name is longer, like Black Crowned Night-Heron, or BCNH.

I know it is easy to want to make your photos look better, but most of the time it more helpful not to do that.😉
