oldcrankyman
We live on the Oregon coast. They're about robin sized, and peck at the ground. When they fly, the top surface of the wings are orange.range. Edited July 17, 2020 by oldcrankyman

My sister in Houston had a landscape installation business for a couple of decades after starting as a grounds keeper at a Myrtle Beach golf course. Stay hydrated; that work can be a bear this time of year!

You have to watch the punks around here closely. It's unfortunate but some of them actually know what they're doing! (Seriously, we have a great bunch of skilled Young Birders here, among others. Just don't tell any of them I said so.) Edited July 18, 2020 by Charlie Spencer

You've gone and done it now, Charlie! These young whippersnappers will get the big head so bad we won't be able to tell them anything!!! (Not that we ever could anyhow, actually.......? ) I'd like to add my welcome to another old cranky man. We need reinforcements....I'm afraid our ranks are getting quite thin. rlp
all out of likes, but wanted to chime in with appreciation for this thread, and to share that we've identified northern flickers today, too. i think this might be the first post I've been pretty sure of the identification, and the first I've thought i might know without consulting searches, etc.. thank you for posting a bird I've recently learned.
