Is this a Gray or Yellow Bellied Flycatcher?

Recommended Posts

This picture was taken in central Illinois on July 4th at 10:30 AM.  It was in a meadow area next to a corn field.  It has a round head, grayish-white chest with a shade of yellow toward the bottom.  Would like to know your opinion please.

Thank you,

Lonnie

It looks like a Eastern Wood-Peewee. Especially in the second photo you can see the long-winged shape.

Neither a Gray Flycatcher nor a Yellow-bellied Flycatcher would be in central Illinois in early July.

Thank you very much Alex.  I may go back and try to get more pictures.

Given the  range of Gray Flycatcher, why would that species come to mind.

The bird shows indistinct dark blotches on the longest under-tail coverts, ruling out all Empidonax.
