Shorebirds of all kinds

Recommended Posts

Seen at Bombay Hook refuge in Delaware along the bay.  Noted avocets, dowitchers, and egrets certainly although I'm not sure what else is there especially the brownish/white smaller ones in the front group.

Shorebird identification is hard enough with a great photo, and unfortunately I don't think you're going to be able to get too much here. The small sandpipers appear to be peeps, and the most likely species would be Semipalmated or Least Sandpipers.

In that situation, Semipalmated is more likely than Least in such a compact mass, but I wouldn't want to claim such from that photo.

Thanks! The masses were surely there- at first it looked like muddy banks or sandbars but it was all birds.  I have never seen so many together like that.
