sbruenjes
I saw these birds today while I was walking through a reservation in Essex County New Jersey. I think I have a song sparrow, but the white throat has me unsure, barn swallows, a chipping sparrow and a house finch. maybe... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Connor Cochrane
1. Song Sparrows. Most subspecies have white throats. 2. Barn Swallows, except for the one in the bottom right corner. Young tree? 3. Chipping Sparrow. Note the rusty red crown. 4. Male House Finch. Streaky sides eliminates Purple. 2
Benjamin
Also note the curved culmen on the House Finch, a telltale sign.

The one in the bottom right corner seems like a bank swallow.

I think it’s lighting making it look like it has one.

Tree Swallow, but juvenile Trees do have breast bands. The Barns are all juveniles, except for the upper-right bird. I think. Better angle on it would help, but the tail seems long.
