We've only been to Paynes a couple of times. How's the birding? Any suggestions for birding it efficiently? I was mostly raised in N Florida about 25 miles from Paynes Prairie, but I left there in 1973. I still have family back there so I try to get to the Prairie when I go back for a visit. On the north side there are trails that lead out into the Prairie, and on the south side there is a parking area with trails through the woods. There is quite a diversity of birds there year-round, but winter is the time to see all the migratory birds with tons of Sandhill Cranes. Wish I could be more specific, but I've been gone from the area so long I don't know all that much about it anymore! I don't think you will be disappointed if you go to either end of it, though. Maybe someone who is more familiar with it can give you some better info. ?

Not too many lungless salamanders in the Portland area... Location narrowed it down a lot. Edited March 31, 2021 by Seanbirds
