Yep, that’s a Gray.
 

I’m not sure about down in SLO, but here in Alameda county I see both Gray and Red, Gray usually in dry forest (such as Mines Road), Red usually out in the more open grasslands. 
 

Theoretically there are also San Joaquin Kit Foxes around, but I’ve never seen one

Awesome! I have seen several but never a baby! Plus I was never ale to get a photo of ones face. I'm so jealous! Awesome find awesome photo!
