The "Other" things you see when Birding

Recommended Posts

Found this on our patio this morning. It is apparently a Hammerhead Worm and we should have killed it as they are predator of earthworms which are beneficial to soil... They are also considered invasive. I'm glad a got a photo because with the naked eye I couldn't tell for sure if it was pushing something or if the hammer shape was it's head. It was it's head as you can see. Apparently their mouth is also their anus.?

Sand Tiger Shark's tooth-living near the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico (a bit further away for me) provides the opportunity to find Shark's Teeth. I do not seem to be very good at it as this is the only one I have found so far. Of course, my main focus is birds and other live wildlife but I'm still surprised I haven't found more.

Wow!! Something took a big bite out of that bunny's ear!!!! :classic_huh:

It happened last year, but she lost a little more of it this past winter. I used to call her Hook, but now I call her Bunny and sometimes Notch516844562_8_15_2020BunnyRabbitDSC_7294.thumb.jpg.5b10d531dc11fc7260fee15c966dc9b2.jpg

Maybe a fox! The past few days, I've been seeing red foxes running through my backyard and the adjacent yards! Pretty exciting!

It could have been a fox. We have a few of them that frequent the yard

Gray fox or red? I don't know too much about mammals.

Red fox. Gray fox are very different looking than the Red. We do have them in Minnesota. I got a glimpse of one a few years ago at night.  They kind of remind me of a cross between a cat and a fox.

Thanks! We have then here in NY state too, but I've only ever seen red foxes. Once in the winter, we saw one dive under the snow to get a rabbit right in my yard!

They are cool looking, but I think they're more secretive than the Red fox, which is why we don't see them often, plus I think their numbers are kind of low here, at least in my area.
