Llamas have shorter ears and a larger head, though the young Llamas do look more like an Alpaca, but as much hair as those girls have they aren't that young. How do you know they are girls? Because Llamas and Alpacas have a stud male, and you can't have any more males, possibly one of them is a male, but I think not. Also they seem to be in a pen, and the owners would probably not keep him in there with them. Plus the males generally keep a little ways away from the herd. It not impossible that he is there but I think it unlikely.

While in route we noticed a few parks we wanted to check out on our way home. On the way we noticed a place where you could rent canoes, kayaks and TUBES. So here is the thing, as newbies to Florida we decided right off the bat that all fresh water had the potential to have gators lurking about. Go back a couple months we went canoeing for the first time ever and in over 6 miles we did not see a single gator. People were renting tubes and using them. This river was mostly spring fed and probably a bit chilly for gators but... This river seemed to be spring fed also but oh wait down river from the rental place in the same river what do we find...and just when we thought renting a tube might be fun. ? Mind you most of the rivers in Florida are brown (stained by Cypress trees) and you cannot see anything in the water most of the time. This gator was showing it's head and the lighting was just so that you could make a bit more of the gator but this is not typical. Any way so why would anyone in their right mind rent a TUBE??? Inexpensive alternative to liposuctioning ye ole buttocks??? My husband and I are going back to the original thinking of all fresh water is likely to contain gators. I told my kids to assume all bodies of water in florida, even something small, has an aligator. We then told them horror stories of kids being grabbed eaten by them.

I'd forgotten that about the turtles. the problem is people don't age in memories. The last memory I have of one of my nieces is when she was twelve and throwing a tantrum. Now she is in her 20's, married, and has a child, but my mind's eye still sees a 12 year old

Clip
Feral Cat at one of our close to home favorite birding spots. Just one of many at this location. Feral cats in fact are all over Jacksonville, FL. There are programs to control the population but they seem to be too little too late.

It is apparently a Hammerhead Worm and we should have killed it as they are predator of earthworms which are beneficial to soil... They are also considered invasive. I'm glad a got a photo because with the naked eye I couldn't tell for sure if it was pushing something or if the hammer shape was it's head. It was it's head as you can see. Apparently their mouth is also their anus.? We found more of these in our backyard several days ago. I texted our Pest Control Service guy and it is not something he treats for but he suggested that we report them as they are an invasive species and like I said above they kill earth worms which are beneficial to the soil. I did and sadly they responded saying they are already out of control and there is nothing they can do about it. We use to see earthworms after it rained pretty much every time it rained come on to our patio. We have not seen a single one all summer. My husband treated our lawn for them but I imagine that unless our neighbors do the same it will be like trying to fill the Gulf one drop of water at time. Kind of like Fire Ants here in Florida we treat but not all our neighbors do so it is a constant battle.
