Clip
@SeanbirdsThis turtle seen yesterday in Orange County, FL looks different to me than the other turtles I have seen in Florida so far. It may just be the angle or that it doesn't have a bunch of moss growing on it's shell but I'm hoping it is something new to me. Can you help me id it? I looked online some but didn't find anything with this pattern on the shell.
Clip
I'm pretty sure this use to be a bird but posted it here in case I'm wrong. Old photo 2015.

No, it's a rodent of some kind. The front part that looks like a beak are the incisors, and you can see molars on the lower mandible.

Jodi Nielson
@Clip That just looks like a Florida Box Turtle to me. Their shell patterns can be pretty varied.

Looking through the binoculars, we could just see two ears and the top of a forehead above a pine branch. The head looked to be about 3 ½ inches across with ears. We sat down and waited for more movement. Eventually we found that we were wrong. It wasn’t a Whiskered Screech Owl, but a Chiricahua Fox Squirrel that was huge. They have a huge bushy tail and are around two feet long. This one was being very cagey and kept itself screened in the branches well. Researchers are worried about the survival of this squirrel in the Chiricahua Mountains after a big fire threatened its habitat and teams of watchers have been combing the forest for sightings. In the picture, looking into the foliage you can see the size of the tail. This species is now known as the Mexican Fox Squirrel. Super awesome find! smskelton
Tis may seem weird, but we were bird watching in the Sulfur Springs Valley about 100 miles from Tucson when we heard this roar and looked up. A New York Air National Guard cargo jet was flying over. Probably headed to Ft. Huachuca in southern Arizona, but it seemed to be headed straight for Mexico.
