I went to Beaverdam WMA, went bidding for 45 minutes, and then harvested some invasive clams from the stream. My family and I eat them.

After you croke from the bug bite, can I have your clams?

The way your holding that looks like a good way to get bitten.

I’m more worried about holding the snake in a secure way that makes it the most comfortable. If I do pick up a snake, I try not to hold it for too long. This one didn’t snap at me at all, just looked.

No, but it was just a youngster so the bite out of me wouldn't be too big. 😁

On a more serious note-I actually make it point not to touch any of the creatures I photograph. I don't know enough about some like insects to know which are harmful and which aren't. Of course, gators always that potential especially if you don't know what you are doing. Which I wouldn't! Plus it just impolite. I have from time to time saved turtles and snakes crossing busy roads and giving them a lift. The snakes I have saved I knew well.

I wish they would all have the same courtesy and not touch me. But, NO the damn bugs bite me all the time.

I agree, I don’t like touching insects anyway… possibly me being traumatized from grasshoppers clinging to me whilst peeing on me. 😅

DUUUUUUUUUUUDE

Let's gooooo!

I've don't have work tomorrow (first Sunday in like a year, with many more to come this summer with the new schedule) so I'm going on an aquatic snake hunt after birding in the morning. Hoping for at least one new species, which shouldn't be too hard since my snake life list is 7 species long. Not that it would affect my count, but I think i'll count subspecies for my herp lists since the whole system is a little weird.

Swimming with manatee😆Loving it! If you ever get the chance to do this go for it! We had so much fun! This young manatee was as curious about us as we were of her. Keep in mind this camera doesn't zoom so this is just how close it was when the photo was taken. It proceed to come give me kisses, nibble on my ear and then pull my hair. What a blast!!!!!!!!! Behind the manatee is my granddaughter and our guide.

Didn't get any new snakes this weekend, but did see some cool stuff! 6 Midland Watersnakes was the final count, plus a bunch of butterflies (lifers!), 1 presumed new Dragonfly, and 3-4 new fish species (Scarlet Shiner, and 2-3 others still not identified, one of which is below), and lifer Pickerel Frogs!

I think one of the reasons it looks a little odd is because of the angle it was taken at. The water is refracting the image considerably and it looks a lot more flat than it actually is.

It was pretty tubular, but with a flat forehead. Really cool colors too, and the biggest one was maybe 5-6 inches long.

Not all of the other things we see are pleasant. Thankfully, this deer seemed perfectly healthy even with all the opportunists suck out it's blood. I have heard this is not always the case. At least I believe these are ticks and/or mites.

Sadly, I have seen way too many deer like this in my lifetime and it still gives me the heebie-jeebies to see so many ticks in such a small space. Makes me wish I could get them all off the poor thing, like I do for my cat.
