Over 5ft Rat Snake! I'm stoked that I was able to get pictures of this guy! Usually they slither off real quick. Probably 10+ lbs!

Sadly, I have seen way too many deer like this in my lifetime and it still gives me the heebie-jeebies to see so many ticks in such a small space. Makes me wish I could get them all off the poor thing, like I do for my cat.

Me too! Sadly, there is no way to help unless you are an official in wildlife and then it could do more harm than good for them to try.

I understand this has been a particularly bad season for ticks here. Funny things is it the first season since we moved here that I haven't come up with at least one on me. In Colorado it was rare to come up with a tick. In my whole life I only got one on the front range. I think maybe two in far north east Colorado. All as an older adult.

I can say this is the first deer I have seen this way. I do remember a family trip to Kansas when I was 6 or 7 years old where the family dog of some relatives was covered with ticks all swollen huge like some of the ones in my pic above. Us kids tried to remove them but the adults just seemed resigned.

MJ pointed out a mass hatching of tiny spiders on the back porch Tuesday morning before she went to work. After she left for work I slid into her chair and snapped a few pictures. The spiders had largely dispersed by the time I got the camera on them, but there were still plenty of them left, heading out in all directions. I estimate there were about 200 of them when I first sat down and MJ pointed them out to me. After taking these photos, I went back to my chair, shown in the third photo, and sat back down beside the remaining spiders and watched while the last of them disappeared.

No keeled scales.

Are you sure? Did you look closely?

Not trying to say I doubt you or anything, but sometimes it's just really small and hard to see.

I am 95 percent sure it didn't have keeled scales. Somebody else on Inat agreed with Smooth Earthsnake.

All right then, so do I. They probably know way more than me on the subject anyway.

I'll second to that! I thought keeled scales would be way more obvious than they are. On Green Snakes they are super tough

@Seanbirdswhat is this-Broad-headed Skink or Five-lined Skink? I had it as Broad-headed on iNat it was confirmed by two others but then one of them changed their mind to Five-lined. It had been research grade but now is not. It will take two more opinions now I think to get it back to research grade.  I admit I'm not sure. Here is the link on iNat. If you would please render your opinion both here and on iNat I would be most grateful. Thanks!
