Any other photos? It's tough because you can't really go off the bill at all here. I will say that the brown on Purple Finches have a warmth and richness I'm not seeing here, and the streaking does not look thick enough. I'd lean House Finch.

"Am I going crazy?"

Please answer the questions bellow to decide if you are going crazy.

Rules: You can't look them up on the internet!

1 How many primary feathers dose a Gull have?

2 How many warbler Species are there in North America?

3 What is a rain crow?

If you answer at least two of them wrong you are crazy.

Heres another photo. I have both most days at my feeders and I'm normally real good at telling them apart. This one is confusing me though. Probably another House. Purples don't usually go to this feeder, they go to the one in the Redwoods

The bird in the second photo looks good for a Purple.  Are you sure they're the same bird?

I believe there the same. They came a minute apart from each other and Both did an odd thing where they landed on the feeder for a second, flew off, acted like a flycatcher catching a bug, and looping back to the feeder.

Definitely not the same bird.... Your first has a bill deformity, the second does not. Second is a Purple Finch of course.

Edit: I guess that's not a bill deformity, it's a seed? In which case that's a Purple Finch.

Yes, it’s a seed. I have seen some worried bill deformities though. Like the Cross-billed House Sparrow that could barley even open its mouth.
