Mocall 1
Saw this little fella today (8/2/20) at Pictured Rocks, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Wife and I are pretty new to birding and are having a hard time identifying it, especially since it appears to have just molted. MSU's website suggests: Bald eagle, Golden eagle Sharp-skinned hawk, Red-tailed hawk, Rough-legged hawk, Cooper's Hawk, Red-shouldered hawk, Northern Goshawk

Bird Brain 1,109
Agreed, this is a young Peregrine. Sibley's calls it a juvenile or 1st year bird.
Charlie Spencer 3,159
@Mocall, welcome to Whatbird! https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Peregrine_Falcon/ Most members of the falcon family have dark facial marks like your bird shows. While falcons are birds of prey, they're not in the same family with hawks or eagles.
Tony Leukering 2,329
It has dark eyes, which rules out juveniles of many species of Buteo and all species of Accipiter. This bird is wearing the plumage that it grew in the nest. It is the first set of non-downy "hard feathers" that it's ever worn. https://cobirds.org/Publications/ColoradoBirds/InTheScope/87.pdf
