Vulture but Black or Turkey Type?

Recommended Posts

I had this Vulture pegged as a Black one. But after posting on a Facebook bird site I’ve had a few comments saying it’s a Turkey Vulture. I don’t see a red face but someone says it’s possibly a juvenile Turkey and that the wing pattern and color fits the Turkey.  I’m ready to eat crow if I’m wrong. Photographed in coastal South Carolina.

This is a Turkey Vulture. The 2 colored wings give it away. A black vulture just has lighter feathers on the wing tips.

According to Sibley, juvenile Turkey Vultures have grayish heads.

OK I’m eating crow! Where’s the reddish head? Is it the lighting?

Fish or American?  I recommend a chipotle hot sauce, either Tabasco or Cholula.
