Gaucho25
Hi everyone! Saw what I think is an American Kestrel on West End and West 102nd Street in NYC this afternoon. It was across the street so I couldn't see the markings. But the neck was short and the head was bigger than a mockingbird. It bobbed its tail while it perched atop a turret. This is the only photo my husband managed to get. Edited August 19, 2020 by Gaucho25 typo/grammar
Avery
I have frequently seen kestrels bob their tails while perched, so it very well could be! I can't really tell off of the photo, since the wings could appear to be pointed from the angle, just by your description.
Gaucho25
Thank you @Avery - hopefully I see it around the neighborhood again soon and get another opportunity to get a better look at it.
