Site Problems and Questions for the Moderator

Recommended Posts

Hi WhatBirders! Admin has restored my previous role as a site moderator. I will be adding back in some information and features we used to have, and I can help with editing, moving, and merging posts if you need that. They are still working on how to add the moderator title under my profile picture 😄 I'm glad to be able to help get WhatBird back to the great resource it has been for so long. Please let me know if you need anything or have any suggestions. Aveschapines

Maintenance was done; looks like everything is fine now... Let me know if there are more problems.

It's fixed!

Hey, @Aveschapines!  Would a pinned topic on 'How to Request an ID' be welcome?  Something along the lines of what information to include in a request - date, time of year, location, local environment, etc.  I just notice a lot of ID request lately are missing the minimums needed to accurately pin a name on the donkey.  If one would be welcome, I'd be happy to rough something out and have others fine tune it.

Either way, have a good weekend!

Yes, I think that's a great idea. I had thought about doing something like that, but it would be great if you want to draft something and get feedback. It used to be in the rules, but I thought it would be better to keep the rules to rules, for more clarity. Let me know what I can do to help with it (pin a topic for people to comment on a draft, for example).

I have a draft.  Is it possible to pin it for discussion, then create a new 'locked' pin for the final version?

Thanks!  I really hope this will help people get accurate answers.

Sure! You can go ahead and post the draft in a new thread and I'll pin it for you. Then when it's ready we can discuss whether it should be a pinned, locked thread or a moderator announcement (like the rules and "why doesn't my old account work" at the top of this page). I can set the moderator announcement to only appear in the ID forum(s).

Test.  Feel free to delete.

I'm starting to think nobody is paying enough attention to bother with that.
lots of echos in here...

Edit: don't mind me. I'm not in the best of moods right now so the disappointment I might feel about things here is a bit magnified... I think I need a nap or something...

Could you please tell me How do I delete photos from the old posts?

We don't have that option. Users are allowed to edit their posts for a short time after posting, but after that the option goes away.

In any case, it's better to leave the photos there, because other people benefit from reading the old posts, but if the photos are gone they are of very little use. A lot of people find their way to the forums by googling birds, and the threads they are interested may not be current.

@Aveschapines, I don't know why, but I am unable to do many things with my account suddenly, like messaging users and editing my profile. I have tried it on many devices and many browsers, but all that happens is that the whole page goes blank. Any suggestions? No rush, thanks.

The same thing has been happening to me

the same also happens when I hit "Search" on the website toolbar
