aveschapinas
1 hour ago, Seanbirds said: @Aveschapines, why do we have a messaging feature on our profiles? Does anybody ever use it? People do use it when they want to communicate privately with one or more WhatBirders. It basically opens up a private thread that is only visible to the people added to the chat. Among other things, it's one way people sometimes alert me to possible problems or ask me to fix things for them.

insanityslave
so when we hit our upload limit is that it then? we have to use 3rd party sites and link? since we cant edit our posts we cant go back and delete them and doubt the mod would do it even if that would work. MichaelLong
I don't think there's such thing as a upload limit...
The Bird Nuts
I don't see anything that says there is an upload limit, but I do try to host photos elsewhere whenever I can just in case there is a limit like there was years ago.
insanityslave
firstly, sorry @Aveschapines i thought i was in the 'questions for mod' thread. this was not supposed to be a new topic. secondly @MichaelLong and @The Bird Nuts see attached pic

As far as we can tell (and what the site owner has told me), there is no longer a limit to the number of photos you can upload. There is a limit for each individual photo. You're right, I wouldn't be too eager to delete large numbers of photos for members. Also the preference has always been to leave them. A LOT of people find the site when they are searching for information about a bird species; this accounts for some of the ancient posts that get "resurrected" with new comments. This was more common before the major crash a couple of years back, but as the archives grow I'm sure it will become more frequent again. But anyone who for any reason looks back at old threads will be frustrated if all the pictures are gone.
aveschapinas
9 hours ago, Colton V said: Is there a topic somewhere on here that will teach me how to do that? This just means uploading your photos to some other site - Flickr, Facebook, your own blog, etc. - and copying the URL and pasting it into the edit box here. The exact procedure will depend on where you want to host your photos, so if you have questions about that let us know what site you are using. Charlie Spencer
And there are always the options to: A) drag the file into the post's text box B) copy a portion of an image and paste it here. Just to clarify, this is not the same as hosting the photo on a 3rd party site. Any photo dragged from your computer's hard drive or copied and pasted from there will be uploaded to Whatbird's server just like if you pressed the Choose Files button. I think it's pretty clear there is an upload limit. We are allowed 488.48 MB. @Aveschapines
aveschapinas
Oh, interesting. Odd that people don't seem to have run into it... although it's much higher; the limit before was around 20 Mb, if I recall correctly.

The new ABA area includes Hawaii, but most people when they do their ABA list, still don’t count Hawaii because of the massively different avifauna.
