How do you guys get "ranks" (the little words under your name)

I think after a certain amount of posts you can edit it in your profile, 500? maybe.. I am sure someone here knows the amount..or maybe not, on the other version of whatbird we could...

Click your name / avatar in the upper right, click Account Settings (NOT Profile), click Edit Profile (in the box on the right side).  Edit the 'Member Title' box; 'Location' is displayed only in your profile

I just made a little rank system based upon how much reputation you have 100 is hummingbird 200 is bushtit 300 chickdee etc

Makes about as much sense as the current system, since it just counts reactions (doesn't matter how many posts you have or what the reactions are...)

Yeah, I don't see a way to mark a single thread as read; but you could go to the last post to achieve that, couldn't you? Are you on a phone? The "mark site read" was one of the first things I noticed; on my laptop it's in the light blue bar at the top of the page, right-hand side, next to "unread content".

I just noticed if you scroll to the bottom of Help Me Identify a North American Bird, there is a place to mark the forum as read. The same is true for Photo Sharing and Discussion, and Help Me Identify a Bird Outside North America. This is different than the menu in the three bars at the top of the page which marks entire site as read.

For me it's at the top of the page - maybe different on a phone? (I'm on a computer.)

Also - I don't remember if this has been mentioned - you can effectively mark a thread as read by opening the last post (you don't have to go through all of the pages).

Yes, I'm on my phone. Also, I think your last suggestion was mentioned, but I did not understand it at the time. Now I think I got it. Thanks.
