nevsar
I am yet to figure out the difference between long & short billed dowitcher. What do you think this one is?
akandula
Believe it or not, dowitchers are easiest to separate in juvenal plumage. Juvenile Short-billed Dowitchers (your bird is an example) have orange edges to their tertials. In contrast, Long-billed tertials have little or no contrasting markings. Inastrangeland
Agree with short billed. On short billed, the feathers have Buffy (beige) edges, that notably go all the way up the feather (you can see this on your bird). In long-billed, the Buffy colour is limited to the tips of the feathers.
