flightman
Based on the pale streaks on the belly and back of this bird, and the black eyeline, I'm guessing this is a female Blackpoll Warbler. I don't know if other birds have such streaks in both places. Seen today around noon in Lido beach NY,
Tony Leukering
Blackpoll is correct; female not necessarily so. All first-years look, essentially, like this at this date. Now, had you gotten pix of the upper-tail coverts....
flightman
Thanks Tony. I'm lucky if a get clear, focused, profile shot. It was quite breezy today, and the leaves and branches blowing in the wind added to the normal difficulty. I missed a bunch of birds, including several Northern Parulas, an adult male American Redstart showing its dramatic plumage, and a Ruby-throated Hummingbird. I saw several warblers too briefly for me to identify.
