dragon49
I hadn't been here in more than a month. I gave up for a while, as I only got three species my last trip. People started reporting warblers, so I gave it another shot. Good day. Had the thunderstorm not hit, I would have stuck around longer to look for a Worm-eating Warbler lifer: https://ebird.org/checklist/S148619915 Edited August 31 by dragon49

Hope it’s not like this spring where the CV and NorCal was insane and SoCal was horrible.

dragon49
Incredible day! The Alder Flycatcher, Worm Eating Warbler (my nemesis!) and Yellow Warbler were all lifers. For the distance covered, I got a good number of species as well. I'd normally walk further here and get more species, but I spent a lot of time at the Alder Flycatcher stakeout spot: https://ebird.org/checklist/S148799768 Edited September 2 by dragon49

These are the most prolific warblers I'm seeing these days.
dragon49
Another great day! I succeeded in my mission to get photos of the rare Alder Flycatcher. I did see it yesterday and uploaded audio proof, but I couldn't get any photos. Warblers are showing up with increasing frequency. Good number of species: https://ebird.org/checklist/S148890526
Quiscalus quiscula
https://ebird.org/checklist/S148921862 Got my long overdue lifer Peregrine Falcon. The weather was warm and sticky, but still a pretty interesting day. Saw quite a few juvenile birds, including the first juvenile Northern Mockingbird I've seen.

It’s hard for me to break 45 outside a few spots. Edited September 4 by IKLland
MichaelLong
Went on a crazy Wood Stork chase today, didn’t find it but still a fun time. That birds probably chilling somewhere in the vast salt ponds of the South and East Bay or maybe even found a nice swamp in the Valley to chill in. Nor Cal peeps stay on the lookout, maybe you’ll have a yard Wood Stork. https://ebird.org/tripreport/155288

Zoroark
https://ebird.org/checklist/S148995418 A trip to the bird preserve resulted in watching a Black-crowned Night-Heron chase an American Bittern around, along with a Horned Grebe. Several other birders saw a potential Tennessee Warbler, which would've been nice to confirm.
dragon49
I had to break up the morning hike into three checklists. I just found out that on two recent refuge checklists, I had wandered off the refuge and on to a different hotspot. I fixed those accordingly: https://ebird.org/checklist/S148948673 https://ebird.org/checklist/S148962450 https://ebird.org/checklist/S148967287 Not too much to say about these. I'll be making this same trip sometimes with longer walks on parts two and three) often. Then it was off for a very easy Bobolink lifer chase: https://ebird.org/checklist/S148982020 Edited September 4 by dragon49
dragon49
Great checklist at my main weekday spot. Be sure to check out the Red-tailed Hawk Photos. I couldn't get any in focus, but they do show (in sequence) the great story of a Fish Crow attacking it: https://ebird.org/checklist/S149061031

I ask because I'm not sure of eBird protocols, but could the owl sighting be hidden from public view to conceal the location of a sensitive species? lonestranger
53 minutes ago, Kevin said: Wrong checklist. After RE-reading the checklist, I'd agree it's probably the wrong checklist since @Avery didn't mention the Flamingos on it. I'm still curious about the owl sighting and eBird's protocols on showing location of sensitive birds, which I think Barn Owls would be grouped as.

Avery
Sorry for the wrong checklist. In some places, Barn Owls are listed as sensitive species, but not here. If this bird was on private property, actively nesting, or flagged as rare, I would have hidden the checklist and not shared it here. Since it is publicly accessible and won’t get broadcast to the whole state via the RBA, I felt comfortable sharing it here, and with other trustworthy county birders. https://ebird.org/checklist/S149092743 6
