Aaron
Through some detective work and eBird stalking, I was able to figure out that a Gyrfalcon has been reported just a little north of me in this patch of farm fields. Was unsuccessful, but will try again tomorrow, though the amount of mallards I saw was insane. About 1800 or more came to feed on the field by my car just before sunset. Thought those were perfect conditions for some falcon action (even someone else was waiting there, I assume for the Falcon) but then someone started shooting at the ducks. I guess there were some hunters nearby so all the ducks up and left and it was pretty dark so I left as well. Thought that was totally random as I was maybe only 5-10 minutes outside the city.  Just a bunch of ‘bang bang bang’ and the flutter of wings.... first time I’ve seen duck hunters.  I’d post the checklist but all it is are mallards and ravens, and I guess I shouldn’t disclose a potential gyrfalcon.... fingers crossed he shows up tomorrow! Aidan B
Went looking for a Lesser Black-backed Gull that was found yesterday. I found it. Lifer and County rarity! Now I need it to fly into my patch! The bird has been less than 1500 feet away from where my patch starts. https://ebird.org/checklist/S76983916

Aaron
Nope, saw 200 CAGO, 3000 mallard, 148 common raven, 1 rough-legged hawk (which for a brief moment I thought was it ?) and a magpie in 50 minutes. Of course the day after at the exact same location at the same time a bunch of other people saw it... Hoping I’ll ‘accidentally’ find one when I go look for snowy owls again Edited December 5, 2020 by Aaron

Aaron
Ha no, but I guess that’s the fun of birding! We get lots of ravens here, they replace the crows that have more or less all left. I’m sure the count was actually much higher as it was constant wave after wave of 10-20+. Champlain valley is almost the opposite side of the continent! I don’t know if I’ll look for this particular individual again, but we’ll see if people upload any more photos

I know of a turkey farm in Addison County that attracts a lot of Bald Eagles and ravens in the winter. We counted 16 eagles and 70 ravens. Others reported even more eagles.
chipperatl
Brown-headed Cowbird flags as rare for this time of the year. Â I found a farm field with what I estimated as at least 500 of them. Â How many Kirtland's Warblers could be spared just by this flock "disappearing"? https://ebird.org/checklist/S77090988
