Whatbird's Young Birders!

Recommended Posts

Haven't posted on this section of the forum in a while, but here I am! I felt inspired to share my own poor photo from today ?

Bonus points if you can ID it without looking at the list it's from:

https://ebird.org/checklist/S60947130

Not everyday you find two first and one second county records (Tern and Sabine's Gull, and Pacific Loon)! The tern is also a sixth provincial record, so extremely good! It had been seen the previous day one county over, and we coincidentally refound it while lakewatching! Talk about luck!

Somewhat unrelated, but the results of the eBird October big day were compiled, and eBird mentioned me and my mom because we got first for Canada! Seems I've hit a little birding hot streak!

Keep an eye out in the coming days/week as tropical storm Olga comes through the eastern states up to Ontario, it's going to bring some good birds!

Happy All Hallow's Eve everybody!   Is anybody doing anything?  I'll try to remember to post a picture of my pumpkin.  I am not doing anything, trick or treating, etc.  Might see if I can get Mom to buy me some candy. ?

Yep! We did pumpkins and watched the end of the world series last night. Tonight I'm going to a party.

We're in a Springhill Suites, vacationing in Nashville.  We tried trick or treating but didn't even get rocks.  Maybe we should have left the hotel?  :classic_biggrin:

Last year we learned if you want to trip over more goths, Wiccans, and Keltic priestess wanna-bes than you can shake a wand at, make the mistake of forgetting it's October when you book a room in Salem, MA.  I'd love to have the local concession on dark purple hair dye and fingerless black lace gloves.

I think ALL of the birds went to visit family elsewhere for Thanksgiving. Maybe they will be back by Monday.

Deep frying that turkey in the yard often encourages them to reconsider migration.

I had a good trip to Augusta GA yesterday.  3 hour, 3.5 miles, 33 species.  Another birder put me on two immature Baldies and a high-flying flock of cormorants.

I saw you reported a Snow Goose. Can you tell me in which cell it was located?

My bad. Looks like it was a Snowy Egret. LOL. I knew there was some icy precipitation involved.

Yeah, that's me!  I have to check the photos but I'm pretty sure about a black bill.  Middle of the Equalization pond, east end in that wide strip of vegetation that cut across tne pond.

Had the privilege of hanging out with Pete Stangel for half an hour or so.  Great guy.  He's responsible for the eagles and most of the cormorants.

Blasted swallow wouldn't cooperate for photos, of course.

Yeah, sounds right. One or more Snowy Egrets have been lingering around.
