Check woody/brushy areas next to the lake (especially logs sticking out of the water), and don’t forget to keep an eye out for flyovers and ones perched in trees. They will perch higher than you think. Also, learn their calls.

Also, Green Heron was last reported on ebird on the Wilson Lake Prairie Fire trail.

Hearing them sing is the easiest way to find them (especially since you’re probably looking for an adult male) so definitely learn their songs. WARNING- Blue Grosbeaks can sound similar.

ebird has dark eyed junco pretty high up on the target species list for july in wilson Ks??
