Kevin
Welcome to Whatbird @Bombycilla Cedorum! That was the official welcome. You can now see why I couldn't post that originally. It is so long and complicated, it took me along time to think that all out. ? 1

Quiscalus quiscula
Anyway, scientific usernames are cool! As everyone can tell by my username...
Bombycilla Cedorum
I was actually inspired by your username @Quiscalus quiscula, and that this particular scientific name goes with my initials, not to mention the Cedar Waxwing is one of my favorite birds. Edited August 11, 2021 by Bombycilla Cedorum I type too fast

Interesting! Yeah that's me the bird nerd, using scientific bird names for everything. My older,(not oldest) sibling laughs at it, but she understands some things about birds. Our relationship is more like you and @Seanbirds. I just saw some Cedar Waxwings today, actually. Very cool birds indeed.

Yeah, I spend a lot of time studying bird books and all of that. Still, when I have a chance I'll drop everything and run after the birds!

Birding Boy
Also, found out that I and half of my family have COVID ? Maybe an excuse I can use to get my mom to explore some underexplored parts of my county with me though. 1

At least not without begging one of your parents to take you, which isn’t often successful. I got lucky growing up on 20 acres with a creek. It was a bit of a haul so I only got to go on days off but it was about a 10 mile round trip pedal to the local wildlife refuge. Now I only have a 1/4 acre lot in town which I've still gotten to 41 sp so far. P. S. Try volunteering (aka bartering) with some extra chore that you usually hate. 12 hours ago, Seanbirds said: ...and I live in the country. Which means that the birds come to you! Yeah I know, not the rarities but still plenty to have fun with. I have a friend who had to move into an apartment in downtown Vancouver BC and he wasn't seeing much of anything anymore so I hunted up and sent him a couple of nearby park hotspots that all had north of 100 sp.

I have had exactly 1 rarity at our place. That was two Lazuli Buntings in 2020 spring migration.
Bombycilla Cedorum
Just curious, are there any other musicians on here? One of the biggest reasons I haven't got into birding as much is because I've focused so much energy on violin

I make music on my computer mainly. Here’s a link to my most recent SoundCloud stuff. I don’t finish many pieces... ? https://m.soundcloud.com/avery-fish-791264673/sets/new-beats

I do chores for free and I don't really hate them. Anyway, I succeeded in asking my parents, so I will be going to a birding hotspot sometime in the next two weeks.
