Hey @Seanbirds, you alright? I hear Kansas is having some wild winds and fires and stuff. Pretty smokey here in Michigan from the winds blowing it our way but that’s about it.

I’m fine. I haven’t heard about the fires… but you’re right about the wind! Today it’s perfectly calm (I doubt I’d be able to fly my kite) but yesterday it was nuts! 70 mph winds! Nothing was damaged at our place (some stuff blew away but that was it) but our friends’ greenhouse had a chunk broken off of it. The wind was so bad that when I went out the door yesterday I nearly fell over! ? I didn’t even have to pedal my bike when the wind was to my back, I just cruised along and let the wind push me.

So yeah, pretty crazy!

Glad to hear it! And I thought 45 mph gusts were bad ? Went inside after a huge healthy pine fell over. I heard there were a few fires in the central-west side of Kansas, they’re probably put out now though.

Anybody doing any Christmas Bird Counts this season? This'll be my first time leading one, I have that one tomorrow, and then I'm going to do another on Sunday with a friend and his family. Gunna be cold, but hopefully we can find some good stuff.

I’ll be eBirding, but won’t be doing any of the stuff with Adubon or anything like that.

I'm doing one, tomorrow, just for the morning. We are going to a 2 pm annual friends' holiday party.

I think my camera might be broken. I was looking for a probable Jack Snipe in the pouring rain and water entered my lens. I have the lens in rice right now but I have a feeling it won’t work.

If it is, send it somewhere to get fixed. I think you should use the 70d instead for now. That is, if the lens is fine.

20/20 hindsight, but consider packing a couple of 2-gallon Zip-lok bags.  Those are plenty big enough to hold as much lens as any of us here at Whatbird can afford.

My camera is fine, it’s just the lens. It looks like I could disassemble it and clean it off if the rice doesn’t work, but that seems risky. I just know it’ll cost a lot to get it fixed if I send it back to canon.

I was looking forward to it since September, but apparently my county is all filled up. Sad to watch as eBird reports fill up for my county-we actually have more than five reports per day now! Amazing.

Sorry you didn’t get to make it this year. Seems like there’s always not a lot of people doing it over here but then again I’ve always just been asked to do them I haven’t had to register. I know what you mean about the checklists, it’s crazy! Nice to have over 200 checklist in one county over two days that aren’t just the usual hotspots and feeder lists.

Yeah, my county got 31 checklists on one day. A lot by this county's standards but probably a normal day for more birded counties. Hopefully I'll make it next year.
