PaulK
Hovering around freezing last few days in Vancouver, had a lovely overnight snow to give us the gift of a white Christmas we're going into deep freeze over the next few days, currently forecasted to be flirting with 0 Fahrenheit in a couple of nights, virtually unheard of here.

It was almost 90 today here. It hit 69 degrees in my neighborhood today, which is 20 or more degrees above average for the date. It was nice to be outdoors birding. Tomorrow will be cooler. Quiscalus quiscula
Warmer today, actually. Only a few traces of snow and no ice, which is weird.
Birding Boy
Colder today. The gull roost lake in my county is beginning to freeze...might not have many gulls on Jan 1st.

Not sure how widespread the event is, but a nature preserve not too far from us is holding their 40th new year bird count on Jan 1st. Apparently groups of birders go out during the morning to record bird species, and help the preserve start off their annual bird list. 5
Aaron
We’ve been under an extreme cold warning the last few days or so… It’s been below -20c for about 2 weeks now. Lots of snow everywhere. This morning it was -41c and it’s going to get to a balmy -28c later. Been hovering around the low -30s for about 4 days now and supposed to stay that way for a few more. Cars don’t start, and eyelids freeze shut… You can throw boiling water into the air and it will just turn into mist. Needless to say I’ve been doing lots of backyard birding.
Aidan B
I'm done!!!!!!!! All the photos from my trip have been sorted, exported, edited, and then added to ebird! It only took me nineteen hours! I added 466 photo to ebird in a single day, that has to be a record of some sort.

For example today I milked the cow, ate breakfast, butchered a llama the rest of the morning, till 12:30, ate lunch, worked on the barn(me and my dad are building it), milked again, and now am typing this(I suppose I could be editing photos right now, hmm.).

Sounds like my childhood - only we never ate the 2 llamas, just all the other critters. You milking by hand? Pen the calf up at night, milk in the morning, and then let the calf have it all day. Bingo - depending on the cow you should have more than enough milk for a couple of families and only be tied down to milking once a day plus getting a much healthier calf. Once the calf is big enough you can even go on vacation once in a while - the calf never minds being turned loose to pig out for a few days

We don't know how much milk she is going to produce yet(we have a Jersey), this was here first calf, and we have been milking her twice a day currently to get her production up. JK , I was saying we had 2 llamas for many years but never ate them - the pigs, chickens, cows, etc were another story. Oh yeah, and never ate the dogs or cats either. I milked 1-2 cows by hand every day from the time I was about 8 till I was working full-time in my late teens. Gives you good forearms ? I don't necessarily miss the every day chores but I do miss a good milking once in awhile. Edited January 1, 2022 by SirVive Addition

Connor Cochrane
We ended up getting 124 species for our small zone I was doing for the South Marin CBC yesterday, a really good total for the zone. I would share the ebird trip report but one of the other team members made it and it’s set to private. Huh? Does that person plan on sharing it after confirming the numbers? This is why I always keep my own eBird list; I can always delete it if the collective effort is shared.
