I didn't realize I'd have to drive over 3 miles on what was pretty much a glorified hiking path, filled with rocks, holes, an overflowing swamp or two...I turned around before I got stuck in a very remote place with no cell service.

Another potential 'Unfortunate Event' story that never got started.  Our loss.

Oops, thanks for the reminder, forgot to update this! Well...let's just say that I didn't have the necessary local knowledge to get to my destination; I didn't realize I'd have to drive over 3 miles on what was pretty much a glorified hiking path, filled with rocks, holes, an overflowing swamp or two...I turned around before I got stuck in a very remote place with no cell service. I may try hiking in next time if I'm more prepared.

Ended up birding the nearby Copper Harbor. Not too much to say here, found a very late Indigo Bunting, broke the state's previous American Goldfinch high-count (I had over 18 hundred migrants in the span of 1 1/2 hours), and found my first redpolls of the year.

Did you take 41 too far East?  Loved that two-track in my Jeep.

That would be 100 ahead of me 😒.....I guess 230 isn't too bad for only having birded basically one state this year.

Not that far out of the Top 100 for the state, and this seemed like an especially good year.  Pre-Covid you'd be right near that 100th place for the FY.  Still 6 weeks left.

Just got my first SAT results back, ended up getting a 1530. A good start, but hopefully I can improve later on in the spring. This upcoming year is going to mean focusing a lot on getting into college, so that's going to mean a lot less time for birding.

1530 and you're retesting? :classic_ohmy: Geez, for my generation, a 1530 meant sit back and relax, confident you'd get at least one of your first two or three choices.

What are you hoping to study?

so I have to bring lunch, and I can bring my camera and bird. Well I forgot both my lunch and all of my birding things.:classic_sad: Uhh...

Ugh, I hate it when that happens.

The one day I'm out and about and decide NOT to bring my camera...

A flipping SWALLOW-TAILED KITE shows up. Of all things!

I'm not following you.  If you're homeschooled, isn't your lunch in the fridge and your birding gear wherever you last put it?  How could you forget any of it?

My father helps out at a co-op. Usually there are not many birds, but today, there were a few warblers, and what would have been a great photo of a Eastern Phoebe.
