Wood Thrush?

Recommended Posts

Phinizy Swamp Nature Park, Augusta GA; Oct 24th, 2020.  Heavily forested area adjacent to flooded marsh.

I had originally marked this bird as Swainson's in the field.  Now that I look at the photo, I've changed my mind.  I haven't had much experience with brown spotted thrushes but ...

I see a crown, neck, and back that are mostly the same shade of brown, shading to gray at the ends of the primaries and toward olive on the tail.  The pale cheeks and throat are heavily streaked with black.  The chest and belly aren't visible but the sides are white with well defined dark circular spots.  The eye ring that looked solid and tan in the field looks broken and white in the photos.

The bird was determinedly foraging in the leaf litter and allowed me to close within 30 feet.

Thanks for any feedback.
