Why? Careful scrutiny and studying the field-guide illustrations and reading the field-guide text makes for relatively straightforward IDs most of the time. Additionally, pay attention to behavior. Hermit is the only one that does the slow tail lift.

I agree

here in Southern California on the coast we don’t have many woods so I don’t see many thrushes that are not robins, mockingbirds, and bluebirds but on posts like this I can never really help because I can’t figure it out!
