Connor Cochrane
I see something that looks like a Night-heron in the foreground. Where is this?
Avery
From what I can see my answer would be Yellow-crowned Night Heron, just by posture. But location would help.

I know, for I have seen women that were beautiful, because I wanted them to be beautiful. But, alas, the next morning I was shocked to find that they weren't beautiful at all! Actually, that doesn't have anything to do with the subject at hand, just thought I'd throw that in to see if anyone was really reading my posts........?

I want to see a Lesser Spotted Pareidolia but I'm outside their range. We only have the Greater Striped Pareidolia (a.k.a. "Zebra Butts"). I think there are some ducks and some Coots. But beyond that it's going to be tough to nail down what exactly.

Two closest ones look like coots others are probably different ducks and geese. Do you know which pool this was in? I love Montezuma
Kevin
Black-crowned Night-Heron. Yellow bill, broad streaking on the neck, and large white spots on the wing, all point to BCNH. Also the over all shape is wrong to YCNH. On 11/2/2020 at 4:00 PM, Avery said: From what I can see my answer would be Yellow-crowned Night Heron, just by posture. But location would help. I strongly discourage using posture to identify Night-Herons, at least from a photo. BCNH can be in normal YCNH postures, and vice versa. When you are there watching the bird that is somewhat different . Edited November 4, 2020 by Kevin

When you are there watching the bird that is somewhat different . I agree. I usually use posture in photos as added evidence to an ID. Also, I am usually viewing these pictures on my phone, so with some pictures, like this one, that I need to zoom in to see details, some are lost. For example, I can’t even see the bill in this photo, much less the width of the streaking on the neck. Thank you for correcting me though!
