Avery
I just heard what sounded like a LOUD piercing goldfinch flight call, with more space in between the notes: per tee tee instead of perteeteetee. I know what it is, but I just can’t remember it!

Avery
No, I know chickadees and pipits, this was not it. I did confuse pipits with goldfinches for a while, but I know them now. This bird was very loud. In a stand of large evergreens on a hill by a small pond.
AlexHenry
Have you considered other goldfinches and other finch species? Pine Siskin for example?
Avery
I briefly checked the Audubon app for the irruption finches, which is what I thought it could be, but I couldn’t find it. I remember someone mentioning this call that I heard as a definitive call for a species, but for the life of me I can’t remember what it is! I will be scouring Macaulay tonight. Avery
Sorry, this seems to have been double posted. @Aveschapines, can you remove this one? @Benjamin I did consider pine Siskin, but a brief check with the Audubon app gave no similar calls. I’ll be searching Macaulay later Edited November 7, 2020 by Avery
Avery
https://search.macaulaylibrary.org/catalog?taxonCode=pingro&mediaType=a&q=Pine Grosbeak - Pinicola enucleator forgot to say the call was clear toned, not buzzy at all sounded a lot like this! I’m gonna have it down as a Pine Grosbeak, and I’m pretty sure it’ll get flagged. Thanks all!

Benjamin
You should check American Robin. I wouldn't report something that's rare by trying to figure out the ID after the fact. The human mind is surprisingly bad at remembering, and some birds must be left unidentified.

The human mind is surprisingly bad at remembering, and some birds must be left unidentified. Turns out it wasn’t flagged, and there have been reports in the county this year. Also, as a sound guy, I am good at remembering sounds. However, if I was trying to identify something I heard a day or two ago, I wouldn’t be 100% confident. But, as the bird was identified 2 hours after first hearing it, I am comfortable reporting it. Thank you for the input though! And I agree that forcing an ID is not good. This bird has a three part, drawn out song thing like the link I sent before.
